Chocolate scones

This is a versatile recipe for scones, you can add dry fruits, chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
Here I have added chocolate chips as the name indicates.

Ingredients

• All-purpose flour -3 cups (and a little more for spreading)
• Granulated sugar-1/2 cup
• Baking powder -5tsp.
• Salt -1/2 tsp.
• Butter -150g
• Egg (lightly beaten)-1
• Low fat milk -1 cup
• Vanilla essence -1 tsp.
• Chocolate chips -1/4 cup

Method

• Grease a baking tray and pre-heat oven at 180 degree Celsius.
• Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a large bowl.
• Cut in butter which is directly taken from the fridge (don’t make it soft)
• Rub it into the flour to get a bread crumb texture.
• Mix together egg and milk in another bowl.
• Add it to the flour mixture (don’t knead it properly), just mix it.
• At this stage, some part of the dough will be wet and some part will be dry.
• Turn the dough to a well-floured board, and dust some flour on your hand as the dough won’t stick on your hand
• Knead it briefly and flatten it using a rolling pin a round or rectangular shaped dough of ¾ inch thickness.
• Cut it into any shape you like, here I have cut it into wedges.
• Bake it for 15 -17 minutes and serve it with fresh cream or jam.
• You will get 16 scones of size almost 2x3 inch size
