Granola
I know a lot of early birds who start their routine early even during weekends. But I don't like to get up early on weekends even though I don't sleep after a particular time. So, for breakfasts I will make something ahead and keep for my precious time (day dreaming and relaxing!). Granola is one such item which we can make and store it in air tight containers. It is also healthy as it is made of rolled oats. For making this versatile recipe you can use dry fruits and nuts of your choice. You can also use it as a topping for cakes.
Ingredients
- Rolled oats-3 cups
- Whole wheat flour-1cup
- Low fat milk powder-1/2 cup
- White sesame seeds-1/2 cup
- Pine nuts/melon seeds-1/2 cup
- Olive oil-1/2 cup
- Honey-1/2 cup
- Brown sugar-1tbsp.
- Vanilla essence-1tsp.
- Almonds/cashews/pistachio/walnuts-1/2 cup
- Cranberry/raisins-1/2 cup
Method
- Pre-heat oven at 150 degree Celsius
- Take oats, sesame seeds, wheat flour, milk powder and pine nuts and melon seeds in a big bowl and mix well.
- In another bowl mix together olive oil, honey, brown sugar and essence well.
- Now mix the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.
- Transfer this to a tray and bake it in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Stir it half way through.
- Then add dry fruits and nuts and bake it for another 15 minutes.
- Take it out of the oven and when it cools down transfer it into an airtight container.
- Have it with skimmed milk and fresh fruits like banana, strawberry etc.
