Fish Vindaloo
Vindaloo is a Goan dish which is very popular in India. The
main ingredients are Kashmiri chilly and vinegar. I like the balanced sweet and sour taste in this dish.
Ingredients
·
Fish – 500g
·
Kashmiri chilies- 15
·
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp.
·
Cumin seeds- 3/4 tsp.
·
Mustard- ½ tsp.
·
Grated garlic- ¾ tsp.
·
Grated ginger-3/4 tsp.
·
Grated coconut-3/4 cup
·
Vinegar-1/4 cup
·
Sliced shallots- 2 tbsp.
·
Oil-2 tbsps.
·
Salt to taste
Method
·
Grind together the Kashmiri chilies, turmeric,
cumin, mustard, garlic, ginger and half of the sliced shallots to a fine paste
·
Grind the grated coconut separately.
·
Heat oil in a curry pot, fry the remaining
shallots and when it starts getting a golden brown color add the ground masala. Sauté till the raw smell of the masalas are
no more.
·
Add vinegar, coconut paste, salt, a cup of water
and boil it.
·
Add the fish pieces, cover and cook it in a low
flame.
·
When the gravy is thick enough switch off the gas.
·
Serve it with plain rice or chappathy.
Note:- the gravy tends to get thicker, so adjust the thickness accordingly.
